Development of the Structured Virtual Keyboard for Korean Language

ABSTRACT
This study presented a new type of virtual keyboard for Korean language proces sing . It s motivation is the assembling structure of the Korean language. T he Korean letter appear s sequentially and sy stematically in a syllable, so the virtual keyboard can vary it s input range according to the predetermined structure. T o examine the performance of the vir - tual keyboard, row- column scan test was performed for ex emplary phrases. The structured virtual keyboard showed suprior result s to the common virtual keyboard. It reduced total scan time and total scan number by 40 % and 30 %, respectively . But some limita - tions were found that hinder further improvement s . T ypical of the limitation s was the increase of number of letter s due to the double con sanant s each of which was taken as a single letter.
