Voice Characteristics of Classical Singing Students and Ordinary College Students on / a/ Prolongation

ABSTRACT

The purposes of this study were (1) to obtain acoustic measurement s (Jitter , Shimmer, HNR, and NNE) and EGG measurement s (EGG Jitter , EGG Shimmer , EGG HNR, and EGG NNE) of 65 classical singing student s (27 males and 38 females ) and 80 ordinary college student s (30 males and 50 females ) and (2) to compare acou stic and EGG parameter s between the two groups. Dr . Speech was need to obtain acou stic measurement s and EGG measurement s, simultaneously . T he subject s sustained / a/ and acou stic and EGG measurement s were taken. T he result s were as follows : fir stly, the mean value of Jitter of clas sical singing student s was 0.18 %, that of Shimmer 1.28 ± 0.66 %, that of HNR 27.05 ± 2.70 dB, and that of NNE - 15.51 ± 3.18 dB. Secondly , the mean value of EGG Jitter of clas sical singing student s was 0.19 %, that of EGG Shimmer 1.23 ± 0.78 %, that of EGG HNR 27.04 ± 2.68 dB, and that of EGG NNE - 24.17 ± 2.63 dB. T hirdly , the mean value of Jitter of ordinary college student s was 0.31 ± 0.11 %, that of Shimmer 2.09 ± 0.74 %, that of HNR 28.81 ± 2.67 dB, and that of NNE - 11.73 ± 3.94 dB. Fourthly , the mean value of EGG Jitter of ordinary college student s was 0.37 ± 0.18 %, that of EGG Shimmer 1.32 ± 1.0 %, that of EGG HNR 32.87 ± 4.56 dB, and that of EGG NNE - 30.28 ± 4.62 dB. Finally , there was a significant difference between the two groups in Jitter , Shimmer , HNR, NNE, EGG Jitter , EGG HNR, EGG NNE (p < .001) while there was no significant difference between the two groups in EGG Shimmer.
