A Qualitative Study of an Assessment Model for Neurogenic Speech-Language Disorders

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to conduct literature review for assessment and develop a Korean assessment model for neurogenic speech-language disorders.
Methods
Interviews were performed with 10 specialists from different clinical settings and related areas. The results were transcribed and analyzed using a qualitative constant-comparative design. Results &
Conclusion
Three main themes emerged from the analysis: (1) a multidisciplinary approach, (2) consideration of the assessment condition, and (3) clinician competency. Subthemes under the main three themes included problems in use of terminology, a team approach for assessment, systematic assessment, development of assessment tools, importance of informal tests, and an increased of the quality of speech-language pathologists. A model based on this study is proposed for appropriate assessments for the differential diagnosis of neurogenic speech-language disorders in Korea.
