| Does the Korean-Token Test for Children-2 (K-TTFC-2) Reflect Performance on Memory Tasks in Children Aged 3 to 10 Years? |

| ABSTRACT |
Background & Objectives
The Korean-Token Test for Children-2 (K-TTFC-2) is a standardized test intended for use with children aged 3 to 12 years 11 months. K-TTFC-2 has been used as a component of comprehensive assessments of varying clinical conditions including language impairments, auditory processing disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders. Memory capacity may account for language difficulties in children with those conditions. The present study investigated how performances on memory tasks were related to total K-TTFC-2 score in children aged 3 to 10 years.
Methods
Eighty-five typically developing children aged 3 to 10 years participated in the present study. The children were divided into three groups according to age. K-TTFC-2 and digit span tasks were administered as memory tasks.
Results
The performances increased significantly according to age group, working memory tasks, and total memory tasks but remained stable for short-term memory tasks. Significant correlations between K-TTFC-2 and most memory tasks were also found. Among the three memory measures, working memory and total memory tasks appeared to predict total score of K-TTFC-2.
Discussion & Conclusion
The results from the present study indicated that K-TTFC-2 reflects children’s capabilities to perform memory tasks. More specific Korean versions of memory tasks need to be developed to assess the cognitive executive system for children with language impairment. |
